Samuel Weinstein, MD Director, Pediatric Cardiothoracic Surgery Samuel Weinstein, M.D., is the Director of Pediatric Cardiothoracic Surgery at The Children’s Hospital at Montefiore. Dr. Weinstein is a member of Montefiore Medical Center’s Department of Cardiothoracic Surgery, which has a long tradition of medical excellence, research leadership and advancing the state of cardiac care. Dr. Weinstein was born in New York City. His undergraduate education was at the University of Pennsylvania and he received his MD degree from the State University of New York at Stony Brook in 1989. His General Surgical and Cardiothoracic Surgical training was completed at Columbia Presbyterian Medical Center in New York City. He spent an additional 18 months at The Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia focusing on Pediatric Cardiothoracic surgery. After graduating from The Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia, Dr. Weinstein took his first position as Assistant Professor of Surgery in the Cardiothoracic Surgery Division at The Ohio State University Medical Center and Children’s Hospital, Columbus. In 2005 he took the position of Director, Pediatric Cardiothoracic Surgery and Adult Congenital Heart Surgery at Montefiore Medical Center. His clinical areas of focus are congenital heart surgery, adult congenital heart repair and aortic surgery for Marfan’s disease. In addition, Dr. Weinstein has a large experience with patients requiring Fontan revision for arrhythmias. In between Dr. Weinstein’s cardiothoracic residency and his congenital training, he spent six months as a physician on the Navajo Reservation in Chinle, AZ. He continues his interest in mission work by taking annual trips with Heart Care International to Latin America. He oversees the Gift of Life Program at the Children’s Hospital at Montefiore, which helps to treat children from less advantaged countries with congenital heart disease. He is a board member of the Worldwide Children’s Foundation of New York, which is dedicated to providing medical care to children in need, from all over the world. He is the author on more than 100 publications and presentations. He and his wife Amy live in Chappaqua with their four children, Danielle, David, Dalia and DJ. |
